It Started With a Shopping Village
In 1975, Walt Disney World opened the Lake Buena Vista Shopping Village. It was a modest collection of shops designed primarily for resort guests, tucked alongside the waterways of Lake Buena Vista. Functional, charming, and very much of its era.
Over the years, it evolved. The name changed to Walt Disney World Village, and then to Downtown Disney in the late 1990s, bringing with it a broader mix of dining, entertainment, and nightlife. Those who visited during the Pleasure Island years will remember it as a destination in its own right.
What It Is Today
Disney Springs is now one of the most visited entertainment districts in the country. Across its four neighborhoods, The Landing, Marketplace, Town Center, and West Side, guests find everything from world-class dining and live entertainment to flagship retail and one-of-a-kind experiences.
